What To Look For In Quality Noni Fruit Juice
In the past 10 years Noni fruit juice has grown in popularity. People suffering from auto-immune disease to arthritis have tried noni fruit juice in the hope of improving their way of life. With increasing demand however comes increasing supply and in many cases the Noni fruit juice being sold to unsuspecting customers are of inferior quality with little or no benefits. It was due to the large discrepancy in the manufacturing and claims of Noni products between different Noni distributors that this report was born.
This report will detail the different manufacturing methods of Noni as well as some of the other subtle factors to look out for before investing in any Noni products.
Growing and Collection
Noni (Morinda Citrifolia) grows best in the pollutant free volcanic soils of the South Pacific including the Cook Islands and Tahiti. Noni products are mainly sourced from the Cook Islands, Tahiti and Hawaii.
Many distributors claim that Noni grown in one part of the world is superior in quality to other parts. However because the manufacturing process of different companies is so varied it is difficult to tell whether the differences between two Noni Juice, for example, is a result of the manufacturing process or the fruit itself. As you can see below there are a wide range of processing techniques used to produce Noni products so claiming that a certain part of the world produces better fruit is and therefore better products is stretching….
It has been reported that the timing of fruit harvesting is important. It is believed that when the fruit is ripe it has the highest level of nutrients possibly responsible for the therapeutic effect of Noni.
Control over the entire processing operation and the way in which the fruit is processed is important for the quality of the final product. Some suppliers for example will claim that their Noni fruit juice is Organic however if they don’t have control over the growing and harvesting process then…
Noni Fruit Juice Manufacturing
Numerous companies manufacture Noni fruit in many different ways each having their advantages and disadvantages. It is important for you the consumer to understand these differences so that you can make a more informed choice when you invest.
The three main methods used to produce Noni fruit juice and Noni capsules/tablets are outlined below.
Method 1: Juice Only
Here the fruit is allowed to ripen until the juice is dripping off the fruit. It is then placed on large trays where the juice naturally drips through where it is collected in containers. The juice is then cleaned and bottled without adding any thickeners, flavorings or preservatives etc. The juice is often labeled 100% pure Noni Juice.
- Although this method produces the purest form of Noni fruit juice the manufacturer can add water to the juice and still call it 100% pure Noni juice under FDA rules. This cost cutting form of Noni fruit juice is then sold onto the unsuspecting customer. It is therefore important to check that the bottle is labeled as having NO water added.
- The 100% pure Noni juice naturally has a strong taste as no flavorings are added. Often the manufacturer will state that the customer can add the Noni juice to fruit juice if they don’t like the taste. This ensures the customer is getting 100% pure Noni juice and not a diluted form.
- Some researchers believe that the fruit pulp contains some therapeutic value. Using the juice only method excludes these therapeutic benefits.
Method 2: Puree
With this method the fruit is again picked when ripe however instead of allowing the fruit to naturally release its juices the fruit is mashed into a puree. Because the puree is quite thick it has to be diluted down with fruit juices (like apple). The resulting juice is thicker and contains fruit juice.
- This method prevents the loss of any of the possible nutritional benefits contained within the fruit pulp.
- The Noni juice has a more pleasant taste due to the added fruit juices
- However adding fruit juice reduces the percentage of Noni in the bottle. The bottle may not say how much juice or the percentage of juice is in the bottle. Be careful when selecting a juice that has been processed using the puree method as it may contain less Noni than you think.
Method 3: Powdered Juice
This method involves picking fruit when ripe and passing it through a drying process. The dried fruit is then ground down into a fine powder. The powder is added to mixture of fruit juice, thickeners and sweeteners to produce the final product. Sometimes the juice is made in different countries to where it was manufactured. Transporting powder between countries reduced the cost of shipping.
- This form of Noni juice usually tastes quite nice due to the high level of fruit juices and/or sweeteners.
- Because of the dehydration process some of the nutritional value from the fruit is lost.
- Because of the high amount of fruit juice and/or sweetener in the product it is hard to determine how much actual Noni you are getting.
- This juice can be recognized by small black particles sitting at the bottom of the container if allowed to sit for a while. Some companies may use a colored plastic bottles for their Noni juice to hide this fact.
Method 4: Capsules and Tablets
This method similar to the powdered juice method involved picking ripe fruit and putting them through a drying process. The dried fruit then goes through an irradiation process which cleans and kills any bacteria etc. The fruit is then crushed into powder form and made into tablets or capsules.
- The tablets and capsules don’t taste like Noni so are easier to take.
- Taking tablets and capsules is more convenient than juice.
- However little is known about the therapeutic value of the tablets and capsules since the Noni fruit has been heated and dried. So some important nutrients may have been lost.
Other Important Considerations
- Some companies don’t put nutritional information on their Noni product labels. If they don’t know what is in their product how can you? Be careful when buying a product without any nutritional information included, always ask the supplier if you are unsure.
- Make sure the Noni juice has been pasteurized to kill off any harmful bacteria. It should say on the label that it has not been pasteurized. Once again check with the supplier to make sure this has been done.
- Some suppliers sell juice at low prices but trick the customer as either the bottle is only half the size of other suppliers or the shipping costs have been hiked up. Once again do your due diligence when comparing suppliers’ prices and products.
- Some suppliers say that their juice is from concentrate in an attempt to fool their customers into believing that their Noni juice is stronger than their competitors. However you can’t get more pure than straight Noni juice, its like saying a raisin is grape concentrate or grape extract.
Hopefully this report has helped you better understand the different processes used to produce Noni products as well as the ways unscrupulous companies can make cheapened products and sell them to unsuspecting customers. The more you know the better you decision will be.
If your have being trying a Noni product for more than 2 months without any noticeable improvements in your health then you should probably think about changing suppliers.
