Noni Juice Benefits

What Is Morinda Citrifolia (Noni)?

The herb Morinda Citrifolia, a member of the Rubaiceae plant family, is commonly called Noni however it also known as Indian Mulberry, Ba Ji Tian, Nono, Nonu, Cheese Fruit and Nhau in various parts of the world.

This edible plant grows best in the pollutant free volcanic soils of the south pacific including Tahiti and the Cook Islands as well as Hawaii. The Morinda Citrifolia tree grows between 10 to 20 feet tall. Small flowers that bloom all year round are nestled amoungst large, dark green leaves. Ripe Noni fruit have a yellow, lumpy appearance and can grow to 12cm or more. Every month a mature Noni tree can yield between 4-8kg of fruit. The strange fruit has an unfortunate fragrance similar to that of rotten cheese.

Every part of the Morinda Citrifolia tree including the roots, stems, bark, leaves, flowers, and fruit are involved in various combinations in nearly 40 known herbal remedies.

Only in the last ten years or so have people really started becoming aware of the many reported benefits of this plant. Research into Morinda Citrifolia has recently exploded, despite this however, some fundamental questions have yet to be answered. What is known though is that sales of Noni juice and related products are booming. Testimonials for this remarkable herb are flooding in as more and more people experience improved health.

Proxeronine - The Secret To Noni's Success?

Although not fully understood Morinda Citrifolia is believed to act at the cellular level, allowing cells to “accept” the nutrients they need to grow and function normally.

The major theory underlying Noni’s amazing health benefits is the “xeronine system”, which was first proposed by Dr R. Heinicke and Dr. N. Solomon in the “Heinicke-Solomon theory”. This theory proposes that the xeronine system is comprised of three important constituents – xeronine, proxeronine and proxeroninase.

Dr. Heinicke and Solomon believe that when proxeronine enters the body it combines with a number of biochemical compounds including proteins, vitamins and minerals etc. This package then travels through the bloodstream until it reaches an unhealthy cell. The proxeronine package then opens up allowing the proxeroninase enzyme to convert the proxeronine to xeronine. The xeronine is then theoriesed to help the sick cell. Noni is thought to be a potent source of the protein proxeronine.

The problem is that this is still only a theory. Xeronine and Proxeronine have yet to be extracted let alone any idea of what they look like. Until this can be achieved we are still a long way off understanding the therapeutic process of this amazing fruit.
